Vladimer (Lado) Gamsakhurdia developed a new theoretical innovation in frame of the young scientists’ research grant project “Acculturation process and its meaning for internal dialog for Georgians”. He showed inadequacy of existing acculturation research to the real-life human experiences and proposed new theoretical notion of Proculturation instead. Theory of proculturation implies meaningful renovation of views on personal adaptation to novel sociocultural meanings and environments. Newm person-centered appraoch was proposed, emphasizing subjectivity of human experiencing.

Vladimer (Lado) Gamsakhurdia’s article was published in “Culture and Psychology” (5 years impact factor: 1.34). He is working on follow up articles based on empirical research on Georgian emigrants’ experience of proculturation.
