“FOsteRing innovation culture for a new generation of GEorgian AI research community”

Starting from June 1, 2025, the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia (SRNSFG) is implementing the international grant project FORGE-AI — “Fostering innovation culture for a new generation of Georgian AI research community” — funded under the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme.

The three-year project brings together the Foundation and 13 international partner organizations from countries including Germany, France, and Armenia.

The FORGE-AI project aims to contribute to the advancement of Georgia’s research and innovation system and to create sustainable opportunities for strengthening the careers of young researchers. While addressing multiple sectors, the project places particular emphasis on research and innovation in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The project will be implemented in three main phases:

1. Capacity building for leading young scientists, research and innovation managers in the field of artificial intelligence;

2. Development and implementation of a cross-sector and cross-border academic secondment programme;

3. Modernization and enhancement of the national innovation support system and the development of new support mechanisms.

Within the framework of FORGE-AI, scientists, young researchers, and innovators interested in AI will be identified and selected for participation in training programmes. Selected participants — including young scientists, innovators, and research managers will engage in both online and in-person training sessions to strengthen their skills and competencies.

In cooperation with the project consortium, a cross-sector and cross-border secondment programme will be developed, allowing selected participants to gain new knowledge and valuable experience at leading European research institutions, explore cutting-edge developments in research and innovation, and expand their professional and academic networks.

The FORGE-AI project will also contribute to improving Georgia’s innovation policy and practice through the development of new support schemes and the analysis of existing systems.

Training activities under the initiative will focus on enhancing the innovative and digital skills of young scientists, research managers, and representatives of research institutions. The curriculum will include modules on artificial intelligence research and application, technology transfer, the EU AI Act, and European best practices.

Knowledge-sharing events, workshops, and trainings will be conducted both online and in person. Additionally, several policy papers and analytical reports will be developed within the project, examining the current state of Georgia’s research, innovation, and startup ecosystem and providing recommendations for its improvement
