Proof of Concept Grant

SRNSF disseminates information on ERC Proof of Concept Grant outcomes.

The ERC Proof of Concept Grant scheme is open to ERC grant holders only. Grant holders will receive top-up funding to explore commercial or innovation potential of the results of their ERC-funded research.  The grantees can apply for funding in one of the three rounds of the yearly call. In the first round of the call 141 ERC grant holders applied, from which 44 was funded.

The selected projects cover a variety of topics, such as building  a neurotechnology device, develop open-source software for faster and better forecasts of severe weather events, or design a new vaccine strategy for RNA viruses, like Ebola, dengue and Zika.

These Proof of Concept grants, worth €150,000 each, can be used, for example, to establish intellectual property rights, investigate business opportunities or conduct technical validation.  The budget of the overall 2016 Proof of Concept competition is €20 million.
