Presentation – "New Phase of Integration of Georgian Science into European Space - New Opportunities for Scientists"

On October 25, Tbilisi State Medical University hosted a presentation "New Phase of Integration of Georgian Science into European Space - New Opportunities for Scientists"; Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia - Mikheil Batiashvili and Director General of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia - Zviad Gabisonia met with scientists and academics.

The event was opened by the Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University - Zurab Vadachkoria. According to the Minister Mikheil Batiashvili, “From January 1st, new European Space will be opened for Georgian scientists, Universities and Research Institutes. Space has a huge resource of about 2 billion euros annually. Georgian scientists, along with European scientists, should grab a resource that united European space has."

Director General of the Rustaveli Foundation Zviad Gabosonia spoke about one of the most powerful organizations in the European Commission - EURAXESS, which allows member states to have direct access to not only EU, European Commission calls, but also to member states' domestic calls. Zviad Gabisonia gave a presentation on EURAXESS's mission and services, wide capabilities as well as the technical side of how to register on the portal.

Director General emphasized the fact that, after the launch of the program - Horizon Europe in 2021, EURAXESS will be one of the most powerful organizations to manage more than a third of the EU's research budget (around € 100 billion) Georgian scientists will have access on it from January 1st 2020. He also highlighted his proposal at the EURAXESS Governing Council meeting in Brussels to launch separate grant calls for Eastern European countries, very important news for Georgian scientists – For Member States of EURAXESS new visa regime will be enacted - Georgian scientists will be given EU work (scientific) visas via simplified online regime. Zviad Gabisonia also introduced to the audience the news, priorities and challenges of Rustaveli Foundation.

Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University Zurab Vadachkoria noted: “The recent developments in Georgia's educational system related to European integration was unimaginable. Georgia's integration into EURAXESS provides great opportunities for Georgian scientists to achieve great success by cooperating with European scientists.”
