‘Scholarly Edition of the 19th-20th Georgian Writers’ Epistolary Legacy’
Scientific Project ‘Scholarly Edition of the 19th-20th Georgian Writers’ Epistolary Legacy’ is being implemented since 2010 with the close cooperation of Iakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University, Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature and National Center of Manuscripts. In 2016, the project obtained a grant of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation for the third time. On the basis of the project, the Ph.D. program ‘Textual scholarship and editorial studies’ was created which in 2016 won in the call for the development of structured Ph.D. programs.
On June 7, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University hosted the presentation of the books: ‘Scholarly Edition of the 19th-20th Georgian Writers’ Epistolary Legacy’ (Volume VIII) and textbook ‘Textual scholarship’, prepared within the above-mentioned projects (Principal Investigator Ketevan Gigashvili).
In the framework of the first project, scientific investigation of Georgian writers' personal letters and the scholarly edition is being implemented in Georgia for the first time. The 8th volume, like the previous 7 volumes, was dedicated to Grigol Orbeliani's letters. Poet’s 727 epistles have already been issued in the edition, 325 of which have been published for the first time and 156 letters have been dated.
The textbook ‘Textual scholarship’ reflects the current level of development of this field, the terminological differences between the schools of textual scholarship of different countries, both traditional and the latest research methods and technologies, the aspects of the use of fundamental textual researches and the perspectives of development of the textual scholarship.
The scientists highlighted the contribution of these editions to the development of the field.
