International Coordinating Board Meeting VIII f Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia

On February 21, 2019 the VIII meeting of the International Coordinating Board of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia was held with participation of the old and new members.

The Foundation has a collegial body - the International Coordinating Board since 2015, members of which are the leading Georgian and foreign scientists and representatives of the Georgian Government. The Board provides recommendations and advices for the Foundation and participates in determining its strategic priorities.

VIII Board meeting was attended by the following members:

  • Roger Cashmore - Professor of Oxford University, former director of the European Organization for Nuclear Research - CERN (UK) - Chairman of the Board
  • Melita Kovacevic - Professor of Zagreb University (Croatia)
  • Zaal Kokaia - Director of the Stem Cells Center of Lund University, Professor (Sweden)
  • Tiziano Camporessi - European Organization for Nuclear Research CERN's CMS Experiment (Switzerland)
  • Ludovico Pontecorvo - European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) - ATLAS Experiment Technical Coordinator (Switzerland)
  • Satoshi Mihara - Advisor to the Ministry of Education and Science of Japan, Full Professor of Japan Research Institute of Higher Energy Accelerator Research Institute - KEK Particles and Atoms (participated via online communication means).

The Director  General of the foundation – Prof Dr. Zviad Gabisonia, Deputy Director Generals - Nino Gachechiladze and Jaba Samushia, and Heads of Departments and Offices of SRNSFG presented and discussed the following topics: New Program Portfolio and 2019 Work Plan (budget and programmes; international cooperation; Science communication activities; Foundation’s participation in the International projects; challenges for 2019; Activities implemented for Supporting Georgian scientists’ participation in the EU Framework programme for Research and Innovation “Horizon 2020”; Georgia's accession to EURAXESS; Ongoing reform and activities planned within the ongoing scientific reform; Establishment of the European Research Council (ERC) standards in Science Management; Electronic Science Journal "Georgian Science" edition) etc.
