Presentation of the Monograph “Identifying Cultural Intersections in the works of Shota Rustaveli and Nizami Ganjavi”

 

The presentation of the English-language monograph "“Identifying  Cultural Intersections in the works of Shota Rustaveli and Nizami Ganjavi”  published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing, took place on January 29 at the Shota Rustaveli Institute of Georgian Literature. The book was initially published in 2019 as part of the Call for Fundamental Research State Grants, funded by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia. Recently, in 2023, the Cambridge publishing   expressed interest in the book and subsequently published it in a slightly modified form.

Teimuraz Dochviri, Director General of the Rustaveli National Science Foundation, congratulated the participants of the event on the successful completion of the project and the presentation of the outstanding scientific product, the monograph. He noted that the internationalization of science and the deepening of international contacts are of particular importance today in all scientific areas, including the fields of literature and culture. It is vital for the Rustaveli National Science Foundation to support such scientific projects, the main goal of which is to properly present Georgian writing and its contribution to world literature in the international stage.

The Director of the Institute of Literature, Irma Ratiani, spoke about the long-standing and successful collaboration between the Institute of Literature and the Rustaveli  Foundation, emphasizing the recent scientific achievements of the Institute, particularly the extensive international projects implemented by them.

The project head and the head of the Department of Rustvelology at the Institute of Literature, Ivane Amirkhanashvili, along with project manager,  Professor Maka Elbakidze, the deputy director of the Institute, delved into the history of the  research of this  issue. They discussed the primary challenges within the works of Nizami Ganjavi and Shota Rustaveli, explored commonalities and distinctions, and highlighted the goals and scientific innovations of the project.
