April 14 Rustaveli Foundation celebrated with the lecture “Language and Ecology of Culture”

 

On April 14, the day of the Georgian language, Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation grantee, Associate Professor of English Philology Department of Institute of European Languages ​​and Literature at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Tina Margalitadze conducted a remote discussion lecture – "Language and Ecology of Culture” for the participants and grantees of Rustaveli National Science Foundation call "Leonardo da Vinci". The topic of the lecture was the ongoing complex processes of the Georgian language, the current issues of protection of the Georgian language and introduction of foreign words, barbarisms, terms into the language. Professor Tinatin Margalitadze mentioned that the impoverishment of the vocabulary of the language, the neglect of the morphology and syntax of the Georgian language endangers the communication and other functions of the state language, and stressed the need to protect the law on the state language. At the end of the lecture she answered the students' questions.
