On the basis of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia’s request for receiving the Horizon 2020 Policy Support Facility (PSF), SRNSFG organized the 1st PSF Mission of the Special Support to Georgia on December 4-7.
The Specific Support Facility to Georgia is planned to have missions from October 2017 to May 2018 and is aimed to develop advice and recommendations by independent international experts to enhance Georgia's Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) system.
The expert panel was chaired by Michael Schlicht, Former Director on national and international Science Policies and Transformation of higher education systems at the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Dr. Schlicht has co-authored EU Peer Reviews on RTDI Policy Systems in Kazakhstan, Georgia and Ukraine since 2012. The panel of experts also includes experts from Austria, Poland, Czech Republic, Bulgaria/The UK and the Netherlands (see Annex).
During the first mission, various meetings have been held with the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia. In addition, meetings during the 4-7 mission included different stakeholders from public and private research universities, research centers and agencies, as well as the representatives of the banking and business sectors and other representatives from the international organizations in Georgia.
After the mission, the panel will discuss the outcomes and draft a first tentative outline on the status quo in the focus areas, and possible options on how to improve the situation. Second mission of the Policy Support Facility is scheduled for February 2018.
