The SRNSFG announces the call for 2026 Research Grants for Young Scientists

Title of the Call: Research Grants for Young Scientists

Call abbreviation – YS

Goals of the call

The call aims to enhance the development of the young scientists’ research quality by supporting their research projects, interdisciplinary scientific collaboration and integration in international scientific activities as well as to support the development and improvement of the higher educational institutions in Georgia.

Major terms and conditions of the Call:

Within the frame of the call, young scientists can submit project proposals in the scientific fields defined by the scientific field classifier as follows:

  • Exact and Natural Sciences
  • Engineering and technology
  • Medicine and healthcare
  • Agricultural sciences
  • Social Sciences
  • Humanitarian sciences

 

To obtain a grant within the Call for Research Grants for Young Scientists, a proposal should be submitted jointly by the host institution and a young scientist, having attained the PhD or equivalent degree 7 years before the Call Announcement date.

The host institution can be LEPL (Legal Entity of Public Law) or NNLE (Non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) Legal Entity) registered in Georgia, as well as a higher educational institution in Georgia, which has a statute that outlines the implementation of research activities as a main goal.

  • A young scientist should have a mentor - academic/scientific personnel of the host institution;
  • A young scientist can also have adviser(s), residing in Georgia or abroad;
  • A project may have supporting personnel.

 

The duration of the research project should be 2 years.

The requested funding from SRNSFG should not exceed 35 000 GEL per year and 70 000 GEL for two years.

The project can have co-funding (additional financial source) that will cover a certain part of expenditure defined by the project budget.

Funding required from the SRNSFG includes the following expenditure categories:

  • Young scientist’s stipend (should not exceed 17 000 GEL per year)
  • Costs of research activities (should not exceed 16 000 GEL per year)
  • Overhead costs (should not exceed 2000 GEL per year)

 

 

Call Administration Timeline:

June 2 – June 23 (16:00) - Registration in the Grants Management Unified System (GMUS).

July 3, 18:00 – Deadline for submitting the application document to the SRNSFG chancellery

July 2026 – Eligibility review of submitted proposals

July-August 2026 – Announcement of midterm results

July – November 2026 – projects` evaluation

November – December 2026 - preparing the ranking lists based on the evaluations received from experts and/or expert group(s), identifying and approving winner projects

November – December 2026 - signing the grant agreement
