Event dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science
On 11 February, the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, in collaboration with the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, hosted an event dedicated to the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Welcoming remarks were delivered by the Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Givi Mikanadze, Chair of the Parliament of Georgia Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs, Mariam Lashkhi, Deputy Chair of the Tbilisi City Assembly, Tinatin Nibloshvili and the Director General of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia, Teimuraz Dochviri.
Within the framework of the event, Minister Givi Mikanadze and Director General Teimuraz Dochviri presented certificates of recognition to distinguished women researchers for their contribution to the development of science, including the principal investigators and team members of scientific projects funded through grant calls administered by the Rustaveli Foundation:
Tinatin Tkemaladze - Doctor of Medicine, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Tbilisi State Medical University, Head of the Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics, Professor, recipient of a grant from the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation.
Marekh Mazanashvili - Doctor of Engineering Physics, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Informatics and Control Systems of the Georgian Technical University, supervisor of multiple winning projects of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation’s student inventors and researchers call “Leonardo da Vinci.”
Marika Tedoradze - Doctor of Philology, linguist, Assistant Professor in field of Georgian Linguistics at the Department of Georgian Philology, Faculty of Humanities, Akaki Tsereteli State University.
Ia Mosashvili - Academic Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor at the School of Computer Science, Kutaisi International University.
Nino Tsulaia - Doctor of Education Sciences, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Education Sciences, Sokhumi State University.

February 11 marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, established in 2015 by a resolution of the UN General Assembly. Its purpose is to promote and encourage women and girls interested in science, and to support their growing role within the systems of science, innovation, and technology.
