Georgia’s Society for Microbiology

On May 2, 2018 George Eliava Institute of Bacteriophage, Microbiology and Virology hosted the  meeting of Georgia’s microbiologists. Event was organized by George Eliava Institute of Bacteriophage, Microbiology and Virology, National Center for Disease Control & Public Health- NCDC, Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, National Academy of Sciences and Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia (SRNSFG). Organizational committee of the founding meeting consists of 16 memebrs (Prof. David Prangishvili, Prof. Eliora Ron, Dr. Mzia Kutateladze, Dr. Paata Imnadze, Prof. Giorgi Kvesitadze, Prof. Nino Gachechiladze, Prof. Vladimer Elisashvili, Dr. Mikheil Asatiani, Dr. Lela Bakanidze, Dr. Marina Tediashvili, Dr. Adam Kotorashvili, Dr. Giorgi Muskhelishvili, Dr. Nunu Mitskevich, Dr. Tinatin Sadunishvili. Dr. Nino Chanishvili and Dr. Ekaterine Jaiani).

President of International Union of Microbiological Societies, Prof. Eliora Ron and Prof. David Prangishvili (Institut Pasteur) addressed the audience with opening presentations on the objectives of the International Union of Microbiological Societies and the potential of Georgia’s Society for Microbiology within the IUMS.

On the second Georgia’s Society for General and applied Microbiology was established, statutory document was approved and members of the board were elected. President of the society is Prof. David Prangishvili.  The association aims to summarize the achievements of Georgian researchers in the field of microbiology, set further development objectives in line with the country’s interests.
