International conference supported by Rustaveli Foundation

On 2-4 of October Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences with the support of Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia will host international science conference on – "Cultural wheat in European countries and Georgia as one of the places of origin of cultural wheat ".

On October 2 conference was opened by the president of Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences Guram Aleksidze. The participants were welcomed by the Director General of the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, Professor Zviad Gabisonia, who spoke about centuries-old traditions and importance of wheat culture in Georgia, about the fact that 5 out of 20 endemic varieties in the world are Georgian; However, the bulk of wheat consumed in Georgia today - 84 percent is imported, so the Rustaveli Science Foundation pays huge attention on research in this area, supports large-scale international conferences and cooperation with international partners.

Zaza Maruashvili, Head of the Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia and representative from Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, famous scientists from France, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Turkey and other countries delivered a speech.
