Dedicated to 105 Anniversary of the Museum
Exhibition “From Colonial to the National Museum-1913-2018” is the part of scientific research grant of Shota Rustaveli National foundation. It aims to show the reinterpreted and renovated display of the artifacts in the Museum, showing the different periods of the development and artistic tendencies, based to the new research materials.
The Unique artifacts and archive materials will be on display in the various spaces of the Museum and will tell the controversial and interesting story of the Museum from the Russian Imperial Policy to the period of Independency. The exhibition is enriched with the new materials and thematically unifies not only temporary and permanent exhibition spaces, but also the library, the educational space, lobby and garden of the Museum.
The objects are presented in the chronological range and show history of the Museum from the period of the establishment of Caucasian Handicrafts Museum and Handicrafts Museum (1899-1913), to the periods of Georgian Democratic Republic (1918-1921), Georgian Socialist republic (1921-1991) and period of Independency (1991-till today). In that period, beside the political/ ideological changes, wars, difficulties, the museum preserve and saved most of it`s collections and turned from the Colonial to the National Museum.
