On April 26, 2018, at 18:00 exhibition of Japanese, Indian and Chinese Art was held at the Georgian National Museum. Exhibition was the part of the project funded by Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia titled “Cultural Heritage of Far East and India – Unexplored collections of Georgian National Museum” (PI- Natia Demurishvili).

Despite the constant scientific studies and research of the oriental art collections, Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia has played crucial role in developing and expanding research processes in this direction. In 2015-2018, by immense contribution of SRNSFG, Georgian National Museum managed to completely list Indian, Chinese and Japanese exhibits and heritage materials. The process of material renewal regarding the field also included, photo correction, safety and security issues, retrieving and processing of archive materials.

The monography “Georgia and Oriental World – (India and Far East)” was presented to the audience during the opening ceremony. The monography consists of works, concerning unexplored collections of Georgian National Museum, as well as political, cultural and religious – philosophical aspects of India and Far East, written by the researchers in the field of history and art from China, India and Japan. Bilingual website (www.orientalart.ge) and online database were created in the framework of the project, which provides society with information about exhibition materials and other useful services of the museum.

It is worth mentioning, that project also includes restoration and preservation of collection materials. Exhibition of Far East and Indian collections is open for all visitors at Simon Janashia Museum of Georgia.

Exhibition will last for 4 months.
