Meeting with the representatives of the Ministries of Georgia in terms of Research promotion and commercialization

On June 11, at 16:00 LEPL Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation of Georgia operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, organized the workshop with representatives from different Ministries and public institutions. The workshop aimed to promote collaboration between the State institutions, private and industrial sector in different topics such as: promoting the problem-oriented research; development of Applied Research; commercialization of the scientific research; supporting collaboration with the scientific-research institutions of the private sector.

It is noteworthy, that since 2016 Georgia is an associated country to EU’s research and innovation framework program “Horizon 2020”, which supports scientists, research institutions, small and medium size enterprises to make a large-scale and high-budget project proposals with European and other colleagues coming from different states, in order to receive funding.

"Horizon 2020" focuses on cooperation between scientific and private sector; research projects development in response to a specific public challenges; promoting research activities oriented on commercialization and etc. It should be noted that, according to the European Commission's Communications and Reports, the next Framework Program for Research and Innovation (EU Framework Program 9) will pay more attention to the business sector and scientific field.

Coming out of the information mentioned above, workshop held discussion on following issues:

  • Grant call Applied Research, administered by SRNSFG: Identifying and outlining up-to-date topics for considering in the concept of the call;
  • Introducing Georgia to the upcoming Framework Program of the European Union in Research and Innovation (9th Framework Program): Considering and adopting present social challenges and economic capabilities in the Work Programmes of 9th Framework Program;
  • Utilization of promising potential of LEPL - Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation as an institution with experience of grant call administration.

Meeting with the representatives of the Ministries of Georgia was held in the format of the round table, where participants stated their points of view and discussed prospects of the future cooperation.
