Georgian Sign Language Dictionary

The project N AR - 30/03: "Georgian Sign Language Dictionary" of Ilia State University and its Full Professor Tamar Makharoblidze won in the competition of 2012 State Science Grant for Applied Research. The project's main goal was to create a Georgian Sign Language Dictionary, which was successfully performed. Working process has the two parallel phases: working with the language sources performing the linguistic analysis, and visualization of the examined lexical units. The latter implied creating the photos and graphics for the tested signs and their digitalization. Linguistic analysis meant descriptive and typological analysis of the signs; the investigations of the signs in relation with the other sing languages. Rethinking the material and forming the main achievements and theoretical conclusions for conference materials, for papers and for the other research purposes as well. 

Using a method of working with diverse type of sources, the main part of Georgian Sign Language vocabulary was revealed. In fact, this is a whole language active fund.

Meanwhile visualization and digitalization of the revealed lexical units were performed and the linguistic analysis was provided. Then the visual and verbal materials were unified for the each lexical unit. 

The intellectual product as a result of this project will really help the Deaf and hard of hearing people to learn better Georgian Sign Language and spoken Georgian as well. Any interested person can person will also be able to learn Georgian Sign Language vocabulary.

In terms of the project the results were displayed on the five International conferences and the results were published in international highly-rated, peer-reviewed scientific journals:
